Premium Elephant - Highly Detailed Finish

Carved from the root of the albizia tree, the wood used to create this wonderful piece has matured for between 20 and 25 years as opposed to being harvested within 5 years as with the majority of Balinese carvings.

The tree naturally dies after around 20 years and this root is excavated to make way for the planting of new trees. The carving once shaped is very finely sanded, stained and then buffed and polished until this lovely natural sheen is created.

This hand carved elephant is one piece, with the exception of the tusks, which are carved from sugar wood and inserted once the remainder of the carving is complete.
